Steer clear of social media stocks

I recently returned to CNBC “Closing Bell” to dissect current market conditions and offer our long-term investing perspective.

I was asked to discuss where I see opportunity for investors. As our clients have a longer-term time horizon, we are looking at companies not market valuations. We see great opportunity in the IT/tech sector and industrials for a variety of reasons, mainly because these are productivity enhancing companies.

We do not count social media stocks in with the tech sector, since it’s difficult to see where they are going. As a media/advertising platform, money is drawn to these sites by eyeballs and page views. It is still too early to know what impacts individuals to buy things and decide how to select products. You aren’t going to Facebook to research your next car purchase.
